Vera Hall - Trouble So Hard Vera Hall (1902-1964) Born in 1902 in Payneville, Alabama, just outside of Livingston in Sumter County, Vera Hall grew up to establish one of the most stunning bodies of American folk music on record. Hall married Nash Riddle, a coal miner, in 1917 and gave birth to their daughter, Minnie Ada. Riddle was killed in 1920. Though Hall sang her entire life, learning spirituals such as I Got the Home in the Rock and When Im Standing Wondering, Lord, Show Me the Way from her mother, Agnes, and her father, Efron Zully Hall, it was not until the late 1930s that Halls singing gained national exposure. John Avery Lomax, ethnomusicologist, met Hall in the 1930s and recorded her for the Library of Congress. Lomax wrote that she had the loveliest voice [he] had ever recorded. The British Broadcasting System played Halls recording of Another Man Done Gone in 1943 as a sampling of American folk music. The Library of Congress played the song the same year in commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. In 1945, Hall recorded with Byron Arnold. In 1984, the recordings were released as a Collection of Folksongs entitled Cornbread Crumbled in Gravy. In 1948, with the help of Alan Lomax, Hall traveled to New York and performed on May 15 at the American Music Festival at Columbia University. During the course of this trip, Lomax interviewed Hall on several occasions. In 1959, these interviews would be transformed into Rainbow Sign, a thinly- guised biography of Hall. In this book, Lomax stated, her singing is like a deep-voiced shepherds flute, mellow and pure in tone, yet always with hints of the lips and the pleasure-loving flesh... The sound comes from deep within her when she sings, from a source of gold and light, otherwise hidden, and falls directly upon your ear like sunlight. It is a liquid, full contralto, rich in low overtones; but it can leap directly into falsetto and play there as effortlessly as a bird in the wind. Today, her work still garners attention. In 1999, techno-artist, Moby (Richard Melville Hall), included her voice and song Troubled So Hard in his multi-platinum album Play, thus introducing Halls voice to a whole new generation of listeners. Prized by scholars and folksong enthusiasts, Halls recordings include examples of early blues and folk songs that are found nowhere else. Her masterful renditions of traditional songs and stories are a defining part of Southern Black culture and the Black Belt region.

Advantage - teetertoter3 GT: wi1lywonka

This is Advantage, a map soley created by Cartographer wi1lywonka. **Teleporter doesn't work!** *** Description: These mines were buried beneath a thick layer of Covenant Glass on Harvest. Two years later, a Battle Frigate, Advantage, landed on a forerunner structure. Through a teleportation malfunction, they found these lost mines. After teleporting to the surface these mines were turned into the first military base on Harvest since the intial disaster. *** Map Summary: The basic idea of the map is a fighting arena with tunnels to get you around. I enjoy playing it as in slayer, but might make a good infection map as well due to the tunnels. It is not overloaded with power weapons (a maximum of three), and I decided to use some weapons not put to use very often such as the flame thrower. The flamethrower works perfectly for this map--even if you're not on the lower floor. The tunnels not only provide quick transportaition but harbor two of the three power weapons. A good thing about this map is that the shotgun will never overpower another player. a) it's unsafe to use the shotgun out of the tunnels. b) grenades make it challenging for shotgun's to own the map (such as what happens on snowbound) though the map could possibly use more battle rifles. Grenades will be put to tactical use when people play this map, as well as the equipment. The bubble shield isn't used as much as the regenerator or the power drain, but is still useful. Also, falling down to a lower part of the map is not a bad thing--there are several quick ways to go to the top of the map again. What's more, is that this map uses interlocking over and over to smoothen bumps. It's even interlocked with the ground! Everything was well though out. I even came up with a story to go with it. FREDA PAYNE - Love Magnet

"LOVE MAGNET" - Released 1977. FREDA PAYNE, Freda Charcelia Payne (born September 19th 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, U..S.A.) is an African-American singer and actress best known for her 1970 hit song, "Band of Gold". Freda is the older sister of former Supremes member Scherrie Payne. In 1963, she moved to New York City and worked with many different entertainers including Quincy Jones, Pearl Bailey, and Bill Cosby. During that same year, her debut album, a jazz recording entitled After the Lights Go Down Low and Much More!!!, was released on the Impulse! label. This album was reissued on CD in Japan in early 2002, and again in the United States in 2005. Three years later, she released her second album (another jazz effort) How Do You Say I Don't Love You Anymore, for MGM Records. She also made occasional guest appearances on different television shows including The Merv Griffin Show and The Tonight Show (with Johnny Carson). She even added theatrical credits to her repertoire; she understudied Leslie Uggams for the Broadway show Hallelujah Baby in 1967 and appeared with the Equity Theatre in a production of Lost in the Stars. Although she was doing well at supporting herself in the business, none of these things helped her break into stardom. In 1969, her old friends back home in Detroit, Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Edward Holland, Jr., persuaded her to sign with their newly-formed record label Invictus. During that same year, her first Invictus single, "Unhooked Generation",was released. Shortly thereafter, songwriters Holland/Dozier/Holland, under the pen name "Edythe Wayne and Ron Dunbar" offered her a song entitled "Band of Gold". Almost immediately, in early 1970, the song became an instant pop smash reaching #3 in the US and #1 in the UK; it also gave Payne her first gold record. An album of the same name proved to be fairly successful as well. Other Invictus singles included "Deeper and Deeper", "You Brought the Joy", and the Vietnam protest song "Bring the Boys Home" (#12, 1971; her second gold record). Her other Invictus albums were Contact (1971), The Best of Freda Payne (1972, a compilation which included four new, unissued songs), and her last Invictus album Reaching Out (1973). In 1973, being dissatisfied with her royalties (which were very low to begin with),[citation needed] she left Invictus and recorded albums for ABC/Dunhill and Capitol, but she never found the commercial success she had with Invictus. She recorded a duet 'I Wanna See You Soon' with Capitol stablemates Tavares, which was a big radio airplay hit in the UK in 1977. In 1981, she briefly hosted her own talk show "Today's Black Woman" and also found work acting in different movies, Broadway, and other theatre productions throughout the eighties. Although she was concentrating more on acting by that time, she never gave up music; in 1982, she recorded a single entitled "In Motion" for the Sutra label in New York, and in 1986, she recorded a remake of her hit "Band of Gold" with Belinda Carlisle. In 1990, she recorded three songs for Ian Levine's UK Motorcity label: another remake of "Band of Gold," "Memories and Souvenirs," and "Only Minutes Away." In the mid-nineties, she released three albums for Dove Music: I Hate Barney (1995, a comedy album), An Evening With Freda Payne: Live which featured her younger sister Scherrie Payne on background vocals, and her first (and only) Christmas album Christmas With Freda and Friends, which featured a duet between Freda and Scherrie (both 1996). She also continued her acting career appearing in movies like Private Obsession (1995), Ragdoll (1999), The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000), and Fire & Ice (made-for-TV, 2001). In early 2001, she released a new album (of jazz, pop, and R&B molded into one) called Come See About Me for the Volt label (the title track is a remake of the Supremes' hit). In early 2003, she performed a show called "Love & Payne" with Darlene Love at Feinstein's at the Regency in New York City and at the Cinegrill in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles getting excellent reviews. During the early part of the 21st century, the following compilations of her music were released: Lost in Love (which includes nine of her post-Invictus recordings), Band of Gold: The Best of Freda Payne (both 2000), Unhooked Generation: The Complete Invictus Recordings (2001, the best compilation of her Invictus songs ever made), and The Best of Freda Payne: Ten Best Series (2002, another collection of her Invictus songs). Freda was formerly married to singer Gregory Abbott in 1978, and had a son, Gregory Abbott, Jr. (born 1978). Freda received the honour, "Dame of Malta".

ND Message in a Haunted Mansion (Part 11) - Hidden Safe

A video walkthrough for "Nancy Drew: Message in a Haunted Mansion". In this section, I talk to Louis about gum bo fu, and get a game over when I say I found the phrase in a book. After that, I talk to Emily to learn that she sent Nancy a letter about gum bo fu. I talk to Rose to learn that the letter is in Nancy's room. The letter says that "gum bo fu" is Chinese for "gold treasure mansion". I then solve a simple zodiac puzzle, where you click the zodiac animals in the proper order. After that, there's a Chinese symbol puzzle. Solving both puzzles gives me access to a hidden safe.
